Stress in our lives is unavoidable, it’s part of being human and no one is immune. That said, we do have a choice; we can control the stress in our lives or let it control us. The cause of stress is rooted in wrongful perceptions people try to force on each other.
People force their wrongful perceptions on others, usually because they want control over them. This in turn creates more stress by forcing others to submit to a negative perception of self. Thus, wrongful perceptions of others often bring about behavioral and decision-making problems in them.
What’s just as important as the cause, are the effects stress can have on us. Frequent and/or prolonged stress will also cause physical illnesses in addition to the mental health worries italicized above.
Creating a nutrient-rich diet to protect your body against the ills of stress is critical. Some stretching exercise may provide a welcome distraction and a good night’s sleep will provide a welcome time-out from stress. In my opinion, embracing hope and gratitude will detoxify your mind and spirit of fear and apathy, better than medication or psychotherapy.
When coping with stress, we simply have to ask ourselves one question. Is it worth giving this stressful moment the finger and living with the consequences that follow? If not, focus on the things you can control, like your health, and stop worrying about what you can’t, like wrongful perceptions of you by another.

As adults, a good night’s sleep is essential for healthy brain function and the regeneration process. For children and teens, it’s essential for growth and development. A toxic lifestyle will disrupt any chance of having a good night’s sleep.
If you’re forever poisoning your body, it will always be in a state of chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation prevents our body and mind from relaxing, hence insomnia. Lack of sleep in itself will produce ongoing chronic inflammation throughout the body.
So there it is: A toxic lifestyle leads to chronic inflammation, leads to insomnia, leads to ongoing chronic inflammation, leads to illness, leads to systemic chronic etc., etc… It’s a vicious cycle.
As a result, your physical and mental health will become progressively worse along with your insomnia. To break the cycle of inadequate nighttime sleep, simply stop living a toxic lifestyle. In my opinion, for adults, 6-7 hours; for children and teens, 9-10 hours is achievable and adequate sleep time.

Being physically active decreases stiffness in our joints, reduces muscle soreness and increases our range of motion. Exercise is a cheap and effective way of lowering our risk of physical injury.
That said, intense physical activity may stimulate free radical production and lead to oxidative stress. Oxidative stress happens when there is an imbalance – free radicals in excess of antioxidants in the body. Cell damage, premature aging and many illnesses are the result of uncontrolled free radicals.
But, research has shown moderate or low-intensity physical activity doesn’t exhaust all the antioxidants in the body. Therefore balance is maintained and oxidative stress won’t occur. Antioxidants not only neutralize free radicals, thus preventing oxidative stress, they also enhance our body’s ability to regenerate.
That said, when your body is already suffering from an imbalance due to a toxic lifestyle. Moderate exercise may only serve to further stimulate free radical production and cause physical injury via oxidative stress. So, if you first work on detoxifying your life and add food rich in polyphenols to your diet, balance is achievable. Being physically active will gradually become less of a struggle.
